The renowned artist Ms. Mamata Shankar from the Mamata Shankar Dance Company will be performing at Cankerjev dom on Friday, the19th March 2010 at the Kosovel Hall from 20 00 hrs onwards. The dance drama CHANDALIKA is written by the famous Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore.
The Mamata Shankar Dance Company follows the style evolved by the late renowned dance maestro Pandit Uday Shankar. This style has the inherent grammar of Classic Indian Dance and yet is innovative, contemporary and not shackled with the moors of rigid classicism. The graceful body movements are blended with the idiom of vibrant folk dances of India to attain a statuesque quality of lyricism. Dance can inculcate the feeling of love & compassion. Mamata Shankar Dance Company aims to create an universal language through the spirit of the Uday Shakar dance form, providing a common platform, where people of the world irrespective of their cast, creed, religion and age can meet. It also aims to create an awareness amongst people about India’s cultural heritage and socials responsibilities and would make this world a better place to live in.
